Meet Dr. Sal

Dr.
Mehrdad Saliminejad

Dr. Sal obtained his medical degree from Qazvin University of Medical Sciences and subsequently finished his Internal Medicine residency and  Gastroenterology and Hepatology fellowship in Tehran University of Medical Science in Tehran, Iran in 2002. Upon moving to the United States, he completed his Internal Medicine Residency with subsequent Gastroenterology fellowship from The University of Southern California (USC) in 2012.  He took an additional advanced endoscopy Fellowship in Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS) at Montreal General Hospital in Canada.

Dr. Sal was recruited by Southern Illinois University (SIU) as Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine and became the Director of Advanced Endoscopy and the Interim Chief of Gastroenterology Division at SIU.  After having taught Residents and Fellows during his five years at SIU, he moved back to Southern California in 2017;  he has since been an active member of Long Beach Memorial Medical Center's Gastroenterology & Advanced Endoscopy Services, where he also serves as the Director. He also directs the Gastroenterology clinic at Todd Cancer Institute. 
As his mission had always been to provide individualized high-quality patient care, Dr. Sal founded ProDigest Gastroenterology & Hepatology Associates. He specializes in the application of advanced endoscopic skills and other cutting edge technologies in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal illnesses.  

With over a decade of experience in managing patients with highly complex medical problems usually seen in tertiary care centers,  Dr. Sal aims to deliver the best care possible to all his patients in a personalized, compassionate and insightful manner. Dr. Sal serves on a number of committees at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, including Gastrointestinal Tumor Board Meetings and is an active member of the American Society of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE). 

Dr. Sal is passionate about gastrointestinal cancer prevention and removing precancerous lesions with innovative and noninvasive endoscopic techniques. He is well known in the region for his expertise in GI bleeding, diseases of the pancreas, gallstone disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) with application of therapeutic and interventional endoscopic techniques.   

Dr. Sal is fluent in English, Farsi and is able to communicate in Spanish as well. Dr. Sal loves learning and updating his knowledge in his spare time. Dr. Sal loves spending time with his family in nature.
